Whiteness seen as being Beautiful
Whiteness seen as being Beautiful- Throughout the whole novel whiteness is superior with the events like the light skinned girl Maureen and the white doll that was given to Claudia. Pauline takes her hatred out on Pecola since when Pecola had dropped a hot pot on a little white girl Pauline cared for the little white girl since she was white and she likes white people. Pecola suffers a lot from whiteness being the standard of beauty. She believes that if she is pretty as a white person and has blue eyes that people will love her more than they do now. This ends up making Pecola goes crazy which shows how extreme beauty can go for people like Pecola.
