Marigolds
Claudia and Frieda think of marigolds as the well-being of Pecola’s baby because they offer money and unsold marigolds to Pecola’s baby to sacrifice something on their part. Claudia and Frieda planted the marigolds and believed that if the seeds grow then Pecola’s baby would be alright but the seeds do not grow and Pecola’s baby dies.
